Oh Canada:

Powerful today Gang, powerful!!!!!!
The Blessing:

Delivered eloquently as always by veteran Kiwanian and uber-lifestylist Jerry Wink – thanks Jerry.
Happy Loonies:

I was finishing lunch today when I heard the can clink. Not noticing that Korine was away, I thought it was her I saw out of my peripheral vision.  My initial reaction was, my god Korine, have you ever let yourself go in the very short time since I last saw you!!!!  To my relief I looked up and realized that John Mayo was doing happy loonies today – whew!!!!!!!

Bob Robinson was happy to have attended the Mariposa Folk Festival this past weekend. As always, this was a great event for our community!!!

Lawrence was also happy to be at Mariposa this past weekend and was quite giddy about the Hoedown results as well – more on that later!!!

John Pritchard was happy about something, I just don’t know what. I was having lunch with Adam Borutski and, like Rob Town, he’ll talk your ear off!!!  Sorry about that John!!!
Special Announcement:

Meeting guest Betsy Gross announced an event that will celebrate four decades of performances and dances that were held at the “Pav” during the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. It will take place on August 19th at the Barnfield Rec Centre.  Robbie Lane and the Disciples will be the headliners.  Rumor has it the VK and the Narrows might make an appearance as well.  Tickets are $30.00 and are available at CC Pant Shop, Brewery Bay and Alley Cats.

Proceeds will go to the Orillia Youth Centre. Sounds rather groovy!!!!
Hoedown Results:

The first annual Kiwanis Hoedown raised $4,000.00 which totally awesome for an inaugural event!!!! Wait a minute!!! You mean we can show up with a bunch of our rowdy friends in cowboy boots and hats, watch all those steamy country videos, dance and drink beer all night and the club makes money off it?????  I think we might be onto something here!!!!  Great job Steph, Korine and everyone else who pitched in on this.  Can’t wait until next year!!!!!

 Special Summer Event:

Mark your calendars for Wednesday August 16th!!!!   We’re considering booking a bus (hopefully with a bathroom) and heading on down to the Roger’s Centre to watch the Boys in Blue take on their divisional nemesis, the Tampa Bay Rays.  Should be a great event and I think I might still be able to shoehorn my way into my old Jim Clancy jersey (I was thirteen).
Today’s Guest Speaker:

Past President, present day Kiwanian and future bucket kicker John Mayo was our guest speaker today. John recounted his 2008 personal odyssey up Mount Kilimanjaro.  He talked about how his journey began at Pearson, took him through Amsterdam then onto Tanzania and the foothills of Kilimanjaro.  He spoke of the highs and the lows, both with his emotions and confidence levels.  He also recounted how, at the beginning of his ascent, he became quite ill and physically weak.  Despite his weakened physical condition and low morale, he prevailed by summiting the highest walk up mountain in the world.  No small feat John and a true testament to the human spirit – both yours and that of the porters!!!!

I was present back in 2009 when John did his original Kilimanjaro presentation to the club and I did the bulletin on it back then. I just pulled this from my saved files!!!  Not only do we need new members with new subject matter but apparently, we could use a new bulletin writer as well!!!!

Next Week:

Not sure what’s going on next week and I really don’t care (that’s not true) cause I’ll be on vaca in sunny Wisconsin!!! Have a great week everyone.

Though for the Day:
