Oh Canada:

A stirring rendition today Gang, simply stirring. I (with the help of Roger Doucet and a couple of blue tooth speakers) hope to be in that good of voice this Saturday as our nation celebrates it’s 150th!!!!

The Blessing:

Delivered eloquently as always by Noel Sterne – thank you Noel.
Happy Loonies:

Ben Cole chipped in a loonie in honor of his father’s 80th birthday.  Here’s to many more Mr. Cole!!!!!

Bruce Waite will be popping the wine cork with Tom Hussey this aft – nice work Bruce!!!!
Special Member Appearance:

Club member Kevin Collins could join us today. Kevin’s schedule as director for Easter Seals doesn’t normally permit him to get away for lunch on Mondays but he was able to make it today.  Kevin’s long association with our club dates to 1976 when he was named the Kiwanis “Timmy” for Ontario.  Always great having you Kevin and we’d love to have you as a guest speaker sometime soon!!!

Kiwanis Club of Hunstville:

The executive voted unanimously to have our club be the sponsor of the new Huntsville club. Pres Steph and Chuck McIlravey will be heading up tomorrow night (Wednesday) to meet with some of the charter member.

Anyone wishing to join them should contact Steph.

Today’s Guest Speaker:

Longtime NHL broadcaster and Orillia resident Jiggs MacDonald was with us today. Jiggs talked about his broadcasting career that has spanned 50 years.  He talked about the many changes he’s seen in the NHL over that time.  He spoke of how the NHL went from being predominately made up of Canadians back in 1967 to having a much more international complexion today (I credit Walt Tkaczuk, Borje Salming and the Gretzky trade to LA).  He also talked about how the business of the game has changed and of how the money involved has grown exponentially.  He spoke about how the players and their families are looked after through among other things, the concierge services which franchises now provide.

Next time Jiggs or anyone else like him comes out to speak at Kiwanis, let’s all clear our calendars for the rest of the day, get Theo’s to bring in a couple of kegs, and let the man talk!!!!   I could have sat there all afternoon listening to Jiggs – awesome meeting today!!!
Next Week:

Next Monday is a round table at Brewery Bay because of the long weekend. This Saturday, the greatest nation on planet earth will celebrate its 150th birthday.  I managed to grab the last two six packs of Molson Canadian stubbies from the Westmount LCBO.  My plan is to start the day at 7:00 a.m. with Roger Doucet blaring from on pontoon boat (thanks Ben Cole). I then plan to spend the rest of the day wandering around the cottage and behaving like my Dad, stubbies, ugly shorts, burnt steaks and all!!!!  Hopefully you all will have as fulfilling a day.

Though for the Day:

“Welcome to Canada, where we’re all friends until the puck drops.”
